Bundle up and get ready for cold weather adventures the whole family can enjoy!
If you live in a cold-weather climate, you’re probably used to spending more time indoors when the weather turns chilly. Cozy movie nights with the family are always a great way to enjoy time inside, but one of the biggest challenges is keeping the kids—and the whole family—active while also taking some breaks from screen time.
Luckily, Stapelstein® elements are versatile, lightweight, and designed for indoor and outdoor play—even when the weather is cold. And here’s a fun fact: they’re crafted in Germany with eco-conscious design at the forefront. Using 100% recyclable EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) technology, our products are not only strong and lightweight but also built to last. What’s even better? Our innovative manufacturing processes use less than half the energy of traditional methods, showing that sustainability and fun can go hand in hand!
Obstacle courses might seem a bit chaotic at first—and they can sometimes end up all over the place—but that’s part of the fun! Start with a blueprint, but stay open to creativity and imagination for a dose of family fun. They’re also fantastic for kids to burn off energy and engage in playful movement.
So, what’s the purpose of an obstacle course? It’s a chance to face physical challenges while developing essential skills like balance, coordination, agility, strength, and problem-solving—all while having a great time!
Indoor Play
Playful movement is always a great idea, and adding pops of color can boost the mood when the weather is less than ideal. So, pair it with our Bauhaus-inspired color palette elements for indoor fun!
Hop to Your Color
Line up Stapelstein® elements on the floor or a flat carpet in various colors around the room or in a play area with space to move around a bit. The challenge is to give each family member a color and have them hop between elements, stepping only on their designated color. Call out colors randomly to keep players on their toes with fun and added twists.
Balance Beam Challenge
Use Stapelstein® Boards as balance beams. Players must walk across without falling off, testing their balance and coordination. For an extra challenge, have players carry a small object while walking the beam.
Stack-and-Balance Race
Divide friends and family into teams. Each team starts by stacking Stapelstein® elements at one end of the room. Players take turns transporting elements one by one to the other side.
Balance Twist
Add a playful challenge by asking kids and family members to balance an element on their head, shoulders, or arms as they transport them. Obviously, stack according to height, age, and ability while always keeping safety in mind. The team that finishes first with their stack intact wins!
Outdoor Obstacle Course Ideas
Winter Fun in the Snow
Winter, especially in the snow, offers endless opportunities for family fun! Start by dressing in warm layers to stay cozy and protected from the cold. Be mindful of changing weather conditions—if it gets too cold or wet, take breaks indoors to warm up and recharge.
