Perinatal Yoga & Mindful Play

“Start simple. Stay curious. Let it be enough.”

“The Stapelstein mat creates that beautiful, shared environment. It becomes less about carving out time away, and more about weaving care and connection into the rhythm of your day.”

This Mother’s Day, we invite you to arrive exactly as you are. Explore our conversation with Sophie Green on weaving care and connection into the heart of your daily rhythm.

Practice to Parenthood — Sophie’s Journey as a Perinatal Yoga Teacher

I have been teaching yoga for over 15 years, but it was during my first pregnancy when I experienced the immense benefits of the practice that my path shifted. I became deeply interested in supporting women in the perinatal space and found myself fascinated by the body during and after pregnancy. That curiosity quickly grew into a passion for helping expecting and new mothers navigate this transformative time.

Motherhood has since reshaped how I teach — it’s softened my approach, deepened my listening, and made my work feel more like a shared, lived experience than something I simply guide. While teaching yoga is a big part of my work, it’s the community we’ve created around it that feels most alive and exciting to me.

Creating a Sanctuary for Meaningful Movement

As a mother, having a dedicated space that gently invites you into movement while also honoring your need to pause is everything during the perinatal stage. It becomes more than just a physical setup — it’s a quiet signal that your well-being matters too.

The Stapelstein mat holds both of those intentions at once. A few breaths, a gentle stretch, a moment on the floor with your baby nearby. It meets you exactly where you are, whether that’s energized or completely depleted.

Since bringing the Mat into our home, something meaningful has shifted — it’s become a shared space rather than just “my” practice area. It’s where movement, rest, and connection naturally overlap throughout the day.

Reconnecting with Yourself in the “Dissolve” of Motherhood

Motherhood can feel like both an expansion and a dissolving of who you once were. There’s so much giving, so much adapting, that it’s easy to lose the thread of yourself along the way.

Coming back to the body — through breath, movement, or even stillness — becomes a way of remembering. It’s not about reclaiming a past version of yourself, but meeting who you are now, in real time.

These small check-ins create continuity within yourself, even as everything else is changing.

A Mother’s Day Message: Movement as an Act of Kindness

As Mother’s Day approaches, I’d like every mother and mother figure to remember that movement doesn’t have to be grand or perfect to be meaningful. It can be a breath, a stretch, or a quiet moment of stillness, or even playful and energetic time with your kids alongside you.

It’s about showing up for yourself in whatever way your body needs that day. The smallest moments of intentional movement are beautiful acts of self-kindness.

Motherhood is full of giving — you deserve to receive that same care, for yourself, every single day.

How to Start a Gentle Home Practice

Begin by simply arriving. Sit or lie down on the Mat, feel the support beneath you, and take a few slow, steady breaths. Let that be enough at first.

From there, follow what feels intuitive — a soft stretch, gentle movement, anything that reconnects you to your body.

The Stapelstein mat creates that beautiful, shared environment. It becomes less about carving out time away, and more about weaving care and connection into your day.

Start simple. Stay curious. Let it be enough.
